Second, HE LIKES KAORU A LOT. It just sort of stemmed from the fact that he knows that if he wanted something, Kaoru would do it for him. He paid attention to him when he wanted attention! It's rather selfish but it is the truth, and it doesn't change the fact that he is growing some affection for Kaoru even without memories.
It probably didn't hit him until he actually saw his face in the water and noticed he looked similar to Kaoru. Obviously he saw enough differences between 'em, but it was that moment when he realized that "hey, I'm really this guy's brother" and "I guess he really does care about me." It actually frustrates him that he doesn't have HIS memories of Kaoru back yet. Though he has remembered a thing with Kaoru in it, I believe it isn't the same. You don't have your thoughts, your feelings attached '^' you've got someone elses! So even if he does remember, the frustrations are still there. HE WANTS TO REMEMBER YOU. :(
But in regards to dying, it actually scares him a bit. Kaoru is obv. family and he has already died *twice* and he is already kind of upset by it BECAUSE THE PERSON I LIKED DIED. HE'S NOT ALLOWED TO. And he's afraid of the memories he sort of knows Kaoru is important. '-' And when he remembers that, he's going to possibly flip out more with Kaoru dying. SLEEPER FEELINGS, THEY ARE THERE. STOP DYING OK :(
